Odd job description.

November 15th, 2006

While I was updating posts the other day I noticed something very funny. Go to lib-bling and do a search for ‘auburn’, only one job should show in the results and it should have a very odd description considering it’s for a Children’s librarian.

*note this because the search engine is showing a sample of the text and cutting of the word ’service’. So no, your addiction to gambling, love of booze and fondness for cigarettes will not get you a Job as a Childern’s librarian at the Auburn Public Library*

Updates a little slow

October 23rd, 2006

Good Morning lib-blingers! You may noticed that updates have been slightly less the in previous weeks. Last week was very hectic so I wasn’t able to check all of my sources, however I did makes sure that I got all the major ones, so there shouldn’t be too many missing. Updates will be more complete this week.

Thanks!

PayScale: How Much Money Do You Make?

October 12th, 2006

Here’s another Digg article I found today, it sounds pretty interesting I haven’t actually run through the process myself (SEE UPDATE AT THE END OF THIS POST) but it seems like it might be useful, if anyone tries it post in the comments and let us know what you think. Here’s the digg description:

At PayScale users go through a process of disclosing detailed information about their job function and compensation, and add it to what PayScale says is the “world’s largest database of salary information.” The user can then access detailed salary information in the database, including custom reports based on salary, bonus, commission, etc.

Update: I gave PayScale a trying figure that since I run a job site it made sense that I go out and try it first. My opinion is that it’s worth it, especially if you’re negotiating salaries (I wouldn’t worry about the pay feature, and since I don’t get paid for this site I’m not going to test that out :P ) The deal is you have to fill in info to get info (fair trade) but they keep it pretty anonymous and you can see what other librarians are making in the area, which can help you know what you should be making. Again, you can keep the info very private, and the information it gives can be very useful.
